It starts with a vision...

One of my favorite hobbies is digging around in the dirt.  Landscaping and gardening are two ways I love to pass time in the summer.  Being a creative spirit, seeing a blank canvas turn into something beautiful that we will be able to enjoy for years to come, with friends and family brings so much joy.  The past two summers have been spent gardening and putting in several perennial gardens.  This summer's big project is building an outdoor fire pit and sitting area.  So here are some before pictures.  This is quite the project so it will probably take me half the summer, so stay tuned for updates.  You'll have to close your eyes to share my vision of what this space will become.

So this is standing in the middle of the driveway looking across towards the woods line.  Last year we had approximately 20-30 feet of woods on the right side of our driveway cleared and de-stumpped, which gave us lots of usable space to landscape.  Since I'm the landscaper in the house, this will take a few years, section by section.  We'll start with the fire pit sitting area.

The red driveway markers, represent the area that we will turn into the seating area.  The one centered in the middle will be where the fire pit will be built.  Our plan is to get pavers and build a round fire pit, then get a load of pea gravel that we will spread around the fire pit over landscape fabric to give a nice surface to walk on and be visually appealing.

This one is a little closer so you can see the area better.  In the background, you can see two rocks side by side and two orange markers.  This will be where I'll build a 12ft perennial garden with spring and summer flowers.  This will be the backdrop for the sitting area.

We have some large pieces of tree trunk from when we had our wood lot thinned last year that we're going to level out to be used as seats/stands to keep the rustic outdoor feel.  We also have some nice Adirondack chairs to relax in.  I can envision a great many nights next to a warm fire under the glistening stars.

It all starts with a vision...
